Support our Digitization Project

The Cinema Resource Centre along with Orangestreet.in have joined hands to raise funds for a digitization project of important materials in our archives.
Due to the fragile nature of the old song books, posters and photographs, we have decided to digitize some of the material in our archives and make it easily accessible for researchers and people interested in cinema.

For this we request you to make a donation via the following link : https://www.orangestreet.in/projects/tcrc

We will be delighted if you could share this link on your Facebook and Twitter accounts and help spread the word.

Poster boys

Posters are an integral part of any film’s promotion. The South Indian Film posters always stood out for its unique and interesting designs. Here is an article that was published in today’s Metro plus, a supplement of The Hindu  (Poster boys – The Hindu). The article talks about the men who work all night pasting these posters in our city walls.

While we are talking about posters here are images of posters from two famous tamil films taken from our archives.

We stand corrected

On April 15th 2013 (https://tcrcindia.com/2013/04/15/rare-production-stills-from-mani-ratnams-thalapathi/) we had posted the following contact sheet and mentioned that it was the ‘look’ test for the Maniratnam film Thalapathi. But we recently got information from a reliable source that it was in fact a test shoot for ‘Iruvar’. We have no further information regarding this test shoot.

"Thalapathi" - Contact Sheet of Mamootty's Look Test

Iruvar was finally cast with Mohanlal and Prakash Raj starring in the film. It was also the debut film for Aishwarya Rai who had just won the Miss World title. Below is a song from the film sung by Unnikrishnan and by Oscar nominee Bombay Jayashri. This arguably could be the first song that Bombay Jayashri sang for films.

Renowned Indian documentary film maker, Anand Patwardhan’s film will be screened at Tate Modern, London from July 12th to 28th.

Anand Patwardhan

“Rarely viewed in Britain, the films of Anand Patwardhan represent one of the most important achievements in documentary cinema. This season brings contemporary audiences into contact with an astonishing body of work whose profound commitment to radical change offers an experience like few others in contemporary cinema. This comprehensive retrospective, the first to be devoted to the major works of Patwardhan in London, devotes long overdue attention to a giant of cinema whose films inaugurated the independent documentary moment in India in the mid-1970s.”

Dhanush for Dummies

We at TCRC are on a mission to take the films of south India to the world. Today we would like to share an article by our dear friend Aditya Shrikrishna on actor Dhanush.
